Since The Open Road started offering classic car hire in Warwickshire back in 1997, the insurers have always kept the lower age limit at 25 and the upper age limit at 70.

Occasionally we would receive requests from customers to  cover drivers aged 71 or 72 and normally after referring them to the insurers, cover would be extended.  But this normally meant a small increase in the premium and an increase in the amount of the insurance excess.

For 2010 we have negotiated a new insurance policy which increases the maximum age to 75, as standard, with no increase in premium or insurance excess.

The insurance industry have finally realised that just because someone passes their 70th birthday they are not unable to control a car.

Our new insurance policy extends the upper age limit to 75.  Bear in mind that you are 75 until the day before your 76th birthday.

This means that a classic car hire gift voucher is now an ideal 75th birthday present as the recipient has a full year in which to enjoy the delights of renting one of our range of classic cars from the 1960s and 1970s.
